Claudio Cordovil Oliveira is Researcher in Public Health (Fiocruz). Master (2004) and Doctor (2009) in Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). A professional journalist specializing in Science, Health, and Environment. Winner of the José Reis Scientific Journalism Award (CNPq) (1995).

He holds a Post-Doctorate in Communication and Information in Science, Technology, and Health from Fiocruz (2010-2011). He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Publishing (Estácio/1982). He attended part of his doctorate at the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in the sandwich scholarship modality (2007/2008), where, under the co-supervision of Dr. João Arriscado Nunes, he investigated the relationship between new information and communication technologies and the identity construction of people with rare diseases (muscular dystrophies).

His research interests focus on the interface between health communication and information and the Social Studies of Science (Social Studies of Science) in themes particularly related to collective health and its relations with democracy, citizenship, and public participation, especially in the rare diseases field. He works to promote public engagement with rare diseases, including actions to promote knowledge among rare patients (expert patients).
